Since the introduction ofDestiny 2’s weapon crafting insideThe Witch Queen, Bungie has been working to simplify the system and this is set to continue with the launch of the game’s next major expansion,Lightfall. The expansion is already set to bring a wealth of changes and additions to the game, from the new Strand subclass to the loadout system, for players to experiment with as part of the upcoming battle againstEmperor Calusand his Shadow Legion. Alongside the new subclass and ability changes, the new changes to weapon crafting look to make it easier to arm up with the weapons and rolls players want to bring into battle as well.
Lightfallis the next major expansion toDestiny 2, bringing players to the hidden city of Neomuna on Neptune as part of the latest battle against the forces of The Witness. Guardians will join forces with Neomuna’s defenders, the Cloudstriders, to push back the invasion by The Witness' newest disciple, Calus, and learn the secrets Neomuna has been housing for centuries. Players will have plenty of new ways to fight back against Calus' forces, including the new Darkness subclass of Strand to unravel and traverse the world in new ways.

As with anyDestiny 2expansion or season, there will be plenty of weapons at players' disposal to chase after and bring into battle against thefanatical Cabal invading Neptune. Weapon crafting will continue to be part of this grind as it has been sinceThe Witch Queenlaunched, though the latest This Week at Bungie reveals more efforts to streamline weapon crafting and make it more easily accessible fromLightfallonward. The two prominent changes will see Resonant Elements done away with to bring crafting in favor of standard currencies such as Glimmer, and the Deepsight attunement objective will be removed altogether.
The removal of Resonant Elements marks the complete removal of the currency after it was simplified down from six sub-currencies atThe Witch Queen’s launch to a single, general crafting currency in subsequent seasons. Its removal effectively makes Deepsight attunement objectives useless, as completing said objectives was the primary source of Resonant Elements. Bungie said Resonant and Ascendant Alloys will still be used for the time being, but plans to address both in the post-launch period forLightfall.
Weapon crafting was a welcome addition toDestiny 2when it was announced in the lead up toThe Witch Queen, but it was met with almost immediate criticism because of how complicated crafting felt to players. The game already had multiple resources to manage between standard currencies such as Glimmer and Legendary shards to more specific currencies including the season-specific Umbral Energy for focusing engrams. It would not be surprising to see players welcome this latest change with open arms, especially with all the new tools for buildcrafting coming inLightfall.
Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.Lightfalllaunches on February 28.
