However, there’s one part ofBorderlands 3thatBorderlands 4should prioritize giving an overhaul, as a weapon representing the series’ core appeal shouldn’t be as useless as it was.

Borderlands 3’s Eridian Fabricator Was One of Its Best New Ideas
On paper, the original Vault Hunter Typhon DeLeon’s gun-making Eridian Fabricator sounds incredible, and fitting for the predecessor to the playableBorderlandscast. After players track Typhon down on the planet Nekrotafeyo, they have the option to pay him 1 Eridium to make him use the Fabricator. Spending Eridium is no small price, as it’s a rare secondary currency needed topurchaseBorderlands 3’s various cosmetics from Crazy Earl, use Crazy Earl’s Reroll to exchange Anointment effects on weapons, or get random Blue, Purple, or Legendary gear from the Vault Line slot machine. Luckily, spending Eridium on the Fabricator can be just as worthwhile.
The Eridian Fabricator Makes A Strong First Impression
Firing the Eridian Fabricator produces a random non-DLC gun scaled to the player character’s level, possibly with an Anointment. TheBorderlandsfandom quickly dubbed it the “Gun Gun” because of this, and it perfectly encapsulatesBorderlands’ endless gun loot. In Typhon’s hands, the Eridian Fabricator canmake any weapon inBorderlands 3, besides six particular Unique and Legendary guns and another Fabricator. However, once players complete the Main Story Mission “Footsteps of Giants,” they can shoot the Fabricator themselves. 10 Eridium yields ten Green-to-Purple rarity guns, which, while impressive, reveals several factors holding the Eridian Fabricator back.
It Will Take A New Borderlands To Fix The Eridian Fabricator
The Eridian Fabricator’s lack of high-rarity guns was addressed by a patch adding an alternate firing mode, but getting a shot at 1-4 ofBorderlands 3’s covered Legendary or Unique weaponscosts a whopping 250 Eridium. At 10 or 250 Eridium, the Eridian Fabricator competes with Vault Line and Reroll machines, respectively, and it often falls short. Vault Line only picks from the top three rarities, while including shields, grenade mods, artifacts, and more Eridium in its winnings — while remaining an unreliable slot machine. Crazy Earl’s Reroll machine, meanwhile, offsets its high price through guns worth re-rolling, keeping that worth if a roll is bad.
Borderlands 4 Must Make The Eridian Fabricator Useful
Eridium is not that hard to come by, but neither are guns inBorderlands 3, and since player and Mayhem Mode levels affect drops, players are encouraged to hold off on these risky investments. The Eridium Fabricator is too interesting to leave behind, soBorderlands 4should make it more useful up-front, if not as a gun provider, then as a weapon in the first place. Keeping this balanced will be tough, but potential changes include the alt-fire guaranteeing Anointments in exchange for fewer guns per shot, or the normal firing mode shooting the player’s inventory, with guns discharging into whatever they hit. HoweverBorderlands 4handles it, the eponymous Gun Gun needs to live up to its nickname.
