Recently, Gearbox Software has been buffing a myriad ofBorderlands 3legendary weapons in an attempt to get them “up to par” ahead of the launch of Mayhem 2.0 this spring. Indeed, there have buffs to numerous legendaries in the last twoBorderlands 3updates, and the developer is continuing the trend by pushing even more weapon improvements live withBL3’s March 12 hotfix.
TheBorderlands 3March 12 update is now live on all platforms, and it makes various adjustments to 13 legendary weapons. The most common change made by the patch is simply an increase to a weapon’s damage, and players will find that Boomer, Hyperfocus XZ41, Linc, Nemesis, Ogre, One Pump Chump, and Roisen’s Thorns are all hitting harder after the hotfix has been applied.

There are also someBorderlands 3legendary weaponsthat have a received an overall damage increase alongside some additional improvements. This category of weapons includes Hellfire, which now has increased damage over time, Nimble Jack, which now has 100% bonus critical damage, and Sawbar, which will now split its projectiles more quickly.
Additionally, there are weapons addressed by theBorderlands 3March 12 patch that have not had their base damage improved, but they should still prove to be more effective in battle. The Garcia, for instance, now has an increased fire rate and shoots more projectiles, while SkekSil has had its extra projectile damage bumped up. Gearbox has also buffed Tankman’s Shield, increasing the maximum damage cap by 200% and increasing the percent damage awarded per kill.
These weapon improvements are not all that is to be found in theBL3March 12 update, though, as there are several bug fixes as well, including one that will bring Sickles with the “Boom” prefix in line with other variants of the weapon. There are also some small changes to two ofBorderlands 3’s Vault Hunters, and those changes can be found detailed in full in theBorderlands 3March 12 patch notes below.
These patch notes also provide details on some location re-balancing that will go live for PC on Friday, March 13 and for consoles “later this month.” The goal with this re-balancing is to prevent new players from consistently reaching areas at levels that are so high that the area’s content is trivialized, and Nekrotafeyo and The Anvil are two locations that are being specifically targeted byGearbox Software.
GENERAL
CHARACTERS
We’re looking to go over each of the Vault Hunters to identify any inconsistencies in gameplay. Some of these concerns will have to be addressed via patches, but for issues such as incorrect values being listed, we’re able to adjust in hotfixes.
LOCATION RE-BALANCING
This adjustment will only affect new characters as we continue to improve and balance progression. We’ll first implement this change on Friday, March 13 for PC players on Steam and Epic; players on all other platforms (PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Stadia, and Mac) will receive these improvements in a patch coming later this month.
We found that new players were consistently entering certain areas over-leveled for the content they were playing. This occasionally trivialized those areas, as enemies were sometimes much weaker than intended for that point in the game. We also found that some side missions later in the game were largely ignored because of these balance irregularities. These balance changes bring the enemies up to the average level that we see players hitting in these locations.
Borderlands 3is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
