Summary

Even thoughSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s multiplayer shooter gameplay is easily its most glaring diversion from the franchise it is a continuation of, the most alarming distinction might be the fact that players are being introduced to almost all of these characters for the first time with this entry. It’s unclear how much of the previousArkhamgames’ genetic makeup will be inSuicide Squadif any, but Rocksteady would do well to connect any and all loose threads left betweenArkham KnightandKill the Justice League, including references to characters thatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecould make good on.

Superman and Lex Luthor were probably the two most notable call-outs in terms of extrapolating theArkhamgames’ lore out beyond Gotham City or Arkham Island, and while hearing a voicemail left by Lex himself was a phenomenal Easter egg, fans at the time ofArkham Knightwouldn’t have given any serious thought to whether that could be picked up on in a new game. Superman will now play an antagonist role inSuicide SquadwithLex Luthor as an NPC ally, but another DC character was also widely teased and could still appear: Oliver Queen’s Green Arrow.

Arkham Games Teased Green Arrow via Queen Industries

Green Arrow was never going to make an appearance if other DC mythology characters were also purposefully excluded, but Queen Industries being featured multiple times in differentArkhamgames was a considerable nod to the character nonetheless. Indeed, Queen Industries logos can be found multiple times throughoutArkham Originsand its DLC, as well as an actual Queen Industries building located on Founders’ Island inArkham Knight.

These obviously only panned out to be fun Easter eggs, though their ubiquity is now a clear indication of Green Arrow being an established character in the canon of theArkhamgames by that logic of inclusion. Rather, whileSuperman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flashhave all been confirmed as Justice League members alongside Batman as an unsuspected member, Green Arrow is nowhere to be seen yet.

It’s possible that Green Arrow was only a previous member of the League, but having Oliver not even become Arrow in this universe would be an odd revelation due to how prominently his logos were featured in-game.Suicide Squaddoesn’t ever need to explain why Rocksteady chose to include so many Green Arrow Easter eggs. However, doing so would add even richer depth to theArkhamcanon andKill the Justice Leagueas a whole.

Suicide Squadcould eventually introduce Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and others if it wanted to, whether that would happen inKill the Justice Leagueor a sequel. But it’s unclear if the Justice League would play any role in a sequel unless Task Force X needed to wipe out more of them, and it’s still yet to be seen if players will actually get to neutralize the League indefinitely. Instead, the more likely full-circle fruition foran Easter egg like Queen Industriesmight be much simpler in its execution, if Rocksteady chooses to include it at all.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas already confirmed that LexCorp, AmerTek, and the GCPD—which were all either mildly referenced or featured explicitly inArkhamgames—will be available weapons manufacturers, supplying different firearms and melee weapons for Task Force X. It’ll be interesting to see what advantages each manufacturer has over another, and if nothing else this feature allows Rocksteady to add a little more meat to the bones of such Easter eggs.

Queen Industries could inevitably be added as a manufacturer, at least one that could supply a number of bows with trick arrows, for example. This could be a way for Rocksteady to include references to companies or even characters that it doesn’t plan to adapt, and thankfully DC is ripe with options in that regard. It would be excellent to see a Corto Maltese manufacturer, for instance, and as far as post-launch content goes, adding new manufacturers could be a great way to extendKill the Justice League’s shelf life as a live-service game.
