Many fans are not yet ready to turn their backs onMorrowind, the third entry in Bethesda’sElder Scrollsfranchise, and gameplay footage from the fan remakeSkywindshows off the work the team has put into the project so far. WhileSkyrimis regarded as the highest-selling installmentin the fantasy series,TES3still enjoys a dedicated following, with the game considered by many to be a classic in the RPG genre.
For those who don’t know,Skywindis an unofficial remake ofMorrowindinSkyrim’s engineand is being developed by a host of fans and volunteers. It takes the former and rebuilds it to bring it closer in visual acuity to the latter. However, the team is committed to maintaining what madeTES3so iconic back in the day, so it will keep everything players love about the old-school game, while giving it a graphical facelift using Bethesda’s Creation Engine toolkit. The project has been in the works pretty much sinceSkyrimreleased, and now some footage of the remake has emerged.

As spotted by PC Gamer, fans who have been interested in this modern take onMorrowindcan now check out 20 minutes of gameplay footage, which demonstrates what the game currently looks like. In the video, the player can be seen adventuring around Molag Amur, a volcanic region on the southeast of Vvardenfell. Those familiar with bothMorrowindandSkyrimwill immediately notice the visual improvement to the former. What’s also interesting is the use of full voice acting, something the original game didn’t feature, largely due to limitations at the time. While the video showsSkywindwithTES5assets, such as the UI and in-game compass, it still looks and feels like the influential 2002 RPG.
