The Japanese gaming giantKonamiremains quiet in the AAA department. Since the departure of legendary game director Hideo Kojima,Konamihas largely shifted to developing free-to-play and mobile games. However, this seems to be changing in the light of several promising rumors that have surfaced this year.
Konami owns some of the most iconic and popular video game franchises of all time, includingCastlevania,Metal Gear Solid, andSilent Hill. Fans have long been yearning for the next big entry in these franchises, and it seems that may finally come to pass. While Konami has yet to confirm the projects it is currently working on, there are a number of Konami-related rumors and leaks currently making rounds.

The Next Castlevania Game
Konami’s dark fantasy adventure series helped create a new genre of games that is now more popular than ever. MercurySteam’s incarnation ofCastlevaniain theGod of War-styledCastlevania: Lord of Shadowsbreathed new life into the 35-years-old franchise. WhileLord of Shadows 2may not have met fans' expectations,fans have since been interested in a newCastlevaniagametaking the style of the firstLord of Shadows.
Rumors about a newCastlevaniagame came earlier this year when notable leaker KatharsisT suggested a soft reboot was in discussion between Konami and Sony. The most recent rumor comes from VGC’s Andy Robinson, who reports that a “reimagining” ofCastlevaniais currently in development at KonamiJapan with additional support from external studios.
Multiple Silent Hill Games in Development
Kojima’sSilent Hillscould have been a new start for the beloved survival horror franchise, though that didn’t work out. SincePTgot canceled, there has been an unprecedented demand for a newSilent Hill, and things may change soon. The possibility ofmultipleSilent Hillgames in developmentat various external studios has been suggested by plenty of industry insiders, leakers, and journalists. Studios like Bloober Team, Kojima Productions, Blue Box, and Supermassive Games are reportedly involved in developing the next set ofSilent Hillgames, though nothing is confirmed as of this writing.
Metal Gear Solid Remake
Rumors about a full-fledgedMetal Gear Solid Remakeby Bluepoint Gameshave been floating around for over a year now. Notable leaker Moore’s Law is Dead suggested in 2020 that aMetal Gear Solid Remakehas been in development at Bluepoint for over three years. Furthermore, this allegedMetal Gear Solid Remakewill feature controls fromMetal Gear Solid 5, which is the most mechanically soundMetal Gearto date.
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
While aMetal Gear Solid Remakeseems like the obvious choice, another report suggests that severalMetal Gear Solidremakes are in development. This info first came through KatharsisT, though VGC’s Andy Robinson has since shed more light on the matter. It seems aMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remakemay be in developmentat Singapore-based development studio Virtuos. Not much is known about this alleged project, though if VGC’s report is anything to go by, it is still in the early phases of development.
Metal Gear Solid Collection
A 4chan leak from earlier this year suggests aMetal Gear Solid Collectionfor PS5is happening. If true, this wouldn’t be the first time Konami released aMetal Gear Solid Collection. The firstMetal Gear Solid HD Collectionfor PS3 and Xbox 360 consisted ofMetal Gear Solid,Metal Gear Solid 2: Solid Snake,Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty,Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, andMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. However, the PS5 collection will reportedly not containPeace Walker,and instead feature a standalone release ofMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. VGC’s report suggests something similar with multiple remasters set to release before aMetal Gear Solid 3 Remake.
