Summary
Immortals of Aveumis the latest EA game under their EA Originals branch of published titles. Most of these games have been smaller experiences with indie developers likeUnravel,Lost in Random, andFe. This game is a lot meatier and offers players a magic-based shooter through a world akin to a Metroidvania.

It’s unique, butImmortals of Aveumalso borrows from the best of the best. For those itching for another shooter game like this or a game with magic as the main source of combat, these eight games are great recommendations. Plus, most are easy to obtain and play on the current big three consoles out there.
8BioShock
BioShockwas a unique shooter when it initially launched as anXbox 360 exclusive. Players were sent into an underwater utopian society after their plane crashed into the ocean. Unfortunately, this paradise had gone mad thanks to Plasmids overtaking the minds of the citizens.
Plasmids were special powers ranging from fire blasts to the electrical charges that players could find and equip as well but minus the weird effects. Along with unique Plasmids, players could use an assortment of guns.

7Dishonored
Dishonoredhas a lot in common withBioShockbecause players could use weapons and gadgets, but there were powers as well and they were the true star of the show. Players could go through missions in this semi-open-world city as loud or as quietly as they wanted. Powers helped a lot with that such as Blink which allowed for short teleportation leaps and Devouring Swarm which called forth creatures like rats to attack enemies. It’s always good whena stealth gamegives players options on how to complete missions. The sequel is also worth getting into and offers two separate campaigns.
6The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis a great game for magic fans because it offers dual-wielding. Players can hack and slash spiders, werewolves, and other creatures to pieces with melee weapons like swords and axes or they could use magic.

The variety of magic in the game is vast and each hand could be equipped with a spell. Players could attack a swarm of enemies with their right hand while healing with their left. There is a reason why this 2011 game is still relevant and that’s because noother open-world gamehas given players so much to play with and so quickly.
5Forspoken
Forspokenis the closest game toImmortals of Aveumon this list in terms of tone.Forspokenis about an orphan girl, Frey, who gets transported into another dimension full of magic. It is the gaming equivalent to ananime Isekai story.
Players acquire a gauntlet and get to control a wide array of magic from unstoppable fire storms to jumping and gliding skills. Frey, like Jak inImmortals of Aveum, has a lot of snark to her tone even when people are trying to help her. The tone may not play for everyone, butImmortals of Aveumfans should truly dig it.

4Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacyisthe first game set in theHarry Potteruniverse in quite some time. Plus it is an original story, taking place way before the books when He Who Must Not Be Named did not stalk the streets of England. Players got to create their character and attend classes at Hogwarts all while trying to stop a goblin rebellion outside of their classroom walls. It was likeHarry Potterwas mixed with thePersonagames except with less dating activities. The setting was especially cool for fans of the series who got to explore more of their favorite fictional world than ever before.
3Magicka 2
Magicka 2is a top-down action game with magic as the primary source of combat. It’s also one of the few games on this list thatoffers co-op multiplayerwherein up to four players could tackle the game together. There is a story involving mages and goblins but it all comes secondary to the gameplay experience.

It’s one of those types of co-op games that is more fun to play mindlessly like any game in theDiabloseries. The arcade-like nature ofMagicka 2will offer players a lot of reasons to keep coming back to blast waves of enemies with colorful magic spells.
2Outriders
Outridersis another multiplayer experience, but it only offered three player co-op instead of four unlikeMagicka 2. Players could customize their character and choose a class that fell into one of four magical groups. Pyromancers, for example, were masters of fire. Primarily, the game was a third-person shooter with magical abilities being around as backup like grenades. Characters inOutridersmay not havebeen grand wizards, but they were still plenty powerful. Think of the game likeGears of Warif Marcus Fenix could throw a fireball.
1Wizard Of Legend
Wizard of Legenddwindles down the co-op experience to just two players. It’s the most intense magical multiple experience of the bunch though as spells have a visceral and tactile feel to them. Some magic is ranged while other magic gets up close and personal. It feels like the best Avatar game that never was and both Aang and Korra would be jealous of the wizards in this indie roguelike. The greatest thing aboutWizard of Legendis the support the developer, Contingent99, gave it throughout the years with tons of free updates.
Immortals of Aveumwas released on July 05, 2025 and is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
