TheMortal Kombat 1roster includes almost all the originalMortal Kombatplayable characters, but two are still missing from the lineup at the time of this writing: Kano and Sonya Blade.Mortal Kombat 1serves as a reboot of sorts for theMortal Kombatfranchise. While its story technically follows up on the events of theMortal Kombat 11: Aftermathexpansion,Mortal Kombat 1is starting fresh with a new universe, meaning characters who were killed off in previous entries can come back, and the franchise can work with a mostly clean slate.

So far, nine characters have been confirmed for theMortal Kombat 1roster: Johnny Cage, Kitana, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Mileena, Raiden, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero for the base game withlongtimeMKvillain Shang Tsung available as a pre-order bonus. Many of these characters were a part of the originalMortal Kombatgame’s roster, which makes sense considering the theme of the game.

The only characters confirmed forMortal Kombat 1so far that weren’t a part of the original game are Kitana, Kung Lao, and Mileena (Shang Tsung was in the originalMortal Kombat, but not as a playable character). All three characters made their debuts inMortal Kombat 2. There was a great deal of controversy whenMileena wasn’t included on theMortal Kombat 11roster, so perhaps her early confirmation is a way forMortal Kombat 1to avoid running into the same criticisms. However, there might still be some controversy if two of the originalMortal Kombatcharacters currently missing from theMortal Kombat 1roster aren’t confirmed for the game.

Mortal Kombat 1 Characters List

The two originalMortal Kombatcharacters who have yet to be confirmed for theMortal Kombat 1rosterare Kano and Sonya Blade. Both characters have appeared in nearly every otherMortal Kombatgame to date with some exceptions, so it would be surprising if they don’t make the cut. There is still quite a bit of time between now and whenMortal Kombat 1’s release date rolls around in September, so there will certainly be many more character reveals for the new game, though the jury is still out on whether Kano and Sonya will be included or not.

ConsideringMortal Kombat 1’s status as a reboot of sorts for the franchise, it would make sense for Kano and Sonya Blade to be featured on the base roster. In the case of Sonya Blade, it will be interesting to see if Ronda Rousey is playing the character again.Rousey’s performance inMortal Kombat 11was heavily criticized, so NetherRealm may want to find someone else for the role.

In the meantime, fans may be wondering about a couple of other characters that appeared in the originalMortal Kombatgame in non-playable roles who have yet to be confirmed forMK1. Goro andReptileare both missing from the game so far, but again, there’s still plenty of time for them to be announced.
